PRESS: Russia seeks to cut GDP energy intensity to 35% by 2030
MOSCOW, Aug 11 (PRIME) -- The Russian Economic Development Ministry has amended an energy efficiency increase plan setting the goal of reduction of the gross domestic product (GDP) energy intensity to 35% of the level of 2017 by 2030, business daily Kommersant reported on Tuesday, citing the document.
More than half of the effect is to be achieved with the help of technologies in the energy sector, transport and in public utilities.
The upgrade of existing power producing facilities was called the key instrument in the energy sector. It will include steam-gas technologies and cogeneration.
The current energy efficiency law was adopted in 2009 and envisaged a decrease of GDP energy intensity by 40% by 2020 but state support was withdrawn in 2015 and the goal was declared unrealistic. At the end of 2019, the Economic Development Ministry published a report saying that energy intensity of the Russian GDP fell by only 9% in 10 years.
